Kaya is committed to protecting the privacy of our users and their pets. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we safeguard it.
2. Information We Collect

3. Location Data
Kaya collects location data only when the app is in use and only with your permission. Location is approximate by default. During active walks, location may be streamed to our servers if you enable walk tracking. Exact coordinates are never shared publicly. Other users see approximate presence, not your exact location. Walk routes are private unless you choose to share them and can be deleted at any time.
4. How We Use Your Information
- To provide pet profiles, walk tracking, maps, reminders, and community features.
- To support safety and trust features, including lost and found pet mode.
- To communicate service updates, alerts, and support messages.
- To improve Kaya using aggregated or anonymized data.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell personal data. We may share information only in these cases:
- With other users according to your privacy settings.
- When you enable lost pet mode and choose to make pet information public.
- With service providers who help operate Kaya.
- When required by law or to protect users, animals, or the Service.
6. Data Retention
We keep account and pet data while your account is active. You may delete content at any time. If you delete your account, personal data is removed within 30 days unless we are legally required to retain it. Aggregated and anonymized data may be retained for product analytics.
7. Pet Data Ownership
You own the data you create about your pets. Kaya does not claim ownership of pet profiles, photos, medical records, or documents uploaded by you.
8. Children's Privacy
Kaya is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including TLS encryption, secure authentication, EXIF stripping for uploaded images where applicable, rate limiting, abuse prevention, and regular security reviews.
10. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your account and personal data.
- Export your data, when this feature becomes available.
- Opt out of push notifications.
- Withdraw location permission at any time.
11. International Users
Kaya may be used globally. Your information may be processed in countries where our servers or service providers are located. We aim to comply with applicable privacy laws, including GDPR where required.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. Material changes will be communicated through the app or email where appropriate.
